Give me a working pen and I will live forever

And when you see her tell her what’s been on my mind.

To be honest, I really don’t know what the hell’s going on in the world today because the only thing online, on TV, or in newspapers (yeah they still exist) is Michael Jackson’s funeral. And you know what, who am I to go against the grain….. Michael Jackson WAS a great artist. Most of the Jackson 5’s catalog are classics along with most of Jackson’s solo contributions, however I don’t see the need to grant him sainthood. Why does someone’s ability to entertain translate into hysteria from the masses? Why are we so enthralled by Michael Jackson’s funeral, or where Brad Pitt had lunch today, or who’s the next Hollywood whore boning? And more importantly, why do we look at someone’s public life and their private life and try to separate the two. Take for instance, Steve McNair, the Pro-Bowl quarterback was known for his heroics on the field and his philanthropy off. McNair was killed over the weekend because he was sleeping around on his wife and partially living with his girlfriend who at this point looks to be the one that killed him. Everyone’s shocked about how he’s such a great man and this can’t be true and blah blah blah, and you know what, he died not because he was a great football player but because he was a terrible man. People want to look at Michael Jackson and say he’s such a great artist, an idol, a hero. He’s a pedophile and a drug addict. Nothing more, nothing less, why should a meaningless ability like singing or dancing, mitigate a life time of victimization and addiction? How is this man labeled a hero and not a criminal and why in god’s name is his funeral so important?

In the worse news imaginable, other than Albert Pujols dying in a car accident, Marc DeRosa, the stud utility player the Cardinals just traded Cleveland for, is hitting the disabled list. It’s retroactive from July 1st, when the injury occurred but still that’s another week without DeRosa, the apparent Cardinal savior.

A woman in North Dakota was recently arrested for child neglect and endangerment after police were called to her home to respond to a domestic disturbance. When police arrived at her home, they found the woman breast feeding her child while hammered. This is a topic that has come up now and again but I’ve never commented about it here. Addiction breeds addiction, and people who grow up living with addicts, usually become addicts as well. All this woman is doing is setting this child up for failure. I mean is the baby going to die; no but does the mother, who is the sole caregiver of her child, have the right to keep putting her child in danger? Probably not, but what are we going to do, give it to one of her dirt bag relatives so they can raise the child? God, white people are so frustrating.

Item to review: Raging Rivers, I’m going to go out there this weekend. You should come too. After all, it is cool when it’s hot.
